Women’s Tennis Suffers First Big Ten Loss at Purdue, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team recorded its first Big Ten loss at Purdue, 4-3, Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. The Buckeyes captured the doubles point for the 14th time in 16 matches and Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) remained undefeated at No. 1 singles (16-0). No. 47 Ohio State record stands at 10-6 on the season and 4-1 in Big Ten play as No. 60 Purdue advances to 7-9 on the season and 2-3 in conference action.
Ohio State recorded victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point. The Ohio State duo of Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Pervez defeated Elizabeth Wright and Lara Burgarello, 8-5. At No. 2, Jackie Leskovar (Jr., Cambridge, Ontario) and Erica Fisk (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.) topped the Boilermakers’ tandem of Melissa Woods and Shawna Zuccarini, 9-7.
With the 1-0 lead, Ohio State only posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and came short of the victory by one point. At No. 1, Pervez defeated Haynor, 6-2, 7-6. Leskovar battled Melissa Iqbal, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(6), for the Buckeyes third point. Ohio State lost straight-set matches at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6.
Ohio State will continue Big Ten play on the road against Illinois at 12 p.m. EST Sunday in Champaign, Ill.
