Ohio State Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 24 Illinois, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 24 Illinois, 6-1, Sunday in Champaign, Ill. Ohio State has dropped two-consecutive Big Ten matches to fall to 4-2 in conference action and 10-7 overall. Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) recorded her first loss of the season at No. 1 singles and is 16-1 in dual play and 25-6 overall.
The Buckeyes posted one doubles victory at the No. 3 spot as they failed to capture the doubles point for the third time in 17 matches. The Buckeye duo of Lindsay Bryan (So., New Orleans, La.) and Meaghan Colville (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) defeated Eldina Fazlic and Brianna Knue, 9-7.
In singles, the Buckeyes picked up their only point at the No. 4 position. No. 53 Pervez snapped a 16-match win streak at No. 1 singles in a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle vs. No. 66 Jennifer McGaffigan, 3-6, 7-6, 1-0(10). Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) posted the only Buckeye victory over Eva Choe, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Five-of-six singles matches went to a third set.
Ohio State will begin a three-match homestand vs. No. 15 Kentucky at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Wisconsin at 10 a.m. Saturday and No. 17 Northwestern at 11 a.m. Sunday. All matches are scheduled for the Stickney Tennis Center. In the case of inclement weather, the matches will be held indoors at Jesse Owens West Recreational Center.
