Track and Field Finishes Strong at Otterbein, Competes at Baldwin Wallace – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio– The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams sent a split squad team to Otterbein College to compete against Mount Union, Marietta, Wittenberg and Otterbein in a OAC qualifying event, Saturday at McVay Track, while a handful of throwers participated in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
At Otterbain, the women received strong performances from the distance squad in the 1500-meter run placing four individuals in the Top 5. Lyndsi Gay (Jr., Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Michigan-Reynoldsburg) placed first in the event with a time of 4:45.51. The men’s distance team also faired well in the 1500-meter run placing six individuals in the Top 10. Aaron Fisher (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) captured first place honors with a time of 3:52.53.
The men’s distance squad continued their strong performance in the 800-meter run placing three individuals in the Top 5. Sophomore Jacob McCauley (Enon, Ohio/Greenon) won the event in a time of 1:55.62.
Freshman Alicia Monroe (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) took first in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 2 inches. Monroe also captured second place honors in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 3 inches and third place honors in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.23 seconds.
Junior Billy Mills (Copley, Ohio/Copley) highlighted the day capturing first place honors in the high jump and long jump. Mills posted a leap of 6 feet 9 inches in the high jump and 22 feet 4 inches in the long jump.
The Buckeyes also sent another split squad of individuals to Baldwin Wallace College to compete in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational. Ohio State received strong performances from the men’s and women’s throw squad.
The women posted three individuals in the Top 5 in the hammer throw, as Keturah Lofton (Jr., Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) and Katy Houser led the way for Ohio State in the women’s hammer throw as they posted first and second place finishes. Lofton won the event with a toss of 184-07. On the men’s side, Brian Duby placed first in the men’s hammer throw with a throw of 179-06.
Ohio State returns to action next week at the Jesse Owens Track Classic Friday,May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
