Track and Field Completes Day Three at Penn Relays – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Day three of the 109th annual running of the Penn Relays was commenced by yet another strong performance by the Ohio State track and field squad as junior thrower Dan Taylor (Middlefield, Ohio) posted another first place effort. Taylor finished the Men’s Hammer Throw Championship in first place with a toss of 209-08 feet.
Taylor’s first place finish in the hammer throw was the third event he placed in during the Penn Relays. Day on day two of the event Taylor posted first place finish in the shot put and a fourth place finish in the discus.
Rusty Azbell (Sr., Lancaster, Ohio) also turned in a strong performance for the Ohio State throwing squad as he placed sixth in the college men’s hammer throw with a toss of 183-02, while John Norman (Sr., Amherst, Ohio) placed 17th in the event with a toss of 175-02.
Also in the throw events, Ohio State junior George Hoover took tenth place in the Men’s Collegiate Championship of America in the javelin with a 173-00 figure.
The Buckeyes not only excelled in the field events, but claimed Top 8 performances in the Collegiate Championships of America in the 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles. Senior hurdler Joel Brown equalled his season-best with a 13.76 to take fourth in the 110-meter hurdles final, while fellow senior Molly Logan clocked a 13.99 to take eighth in the women’s 100-meter hurdles final. In addition, the OSU men’s sprint medley squad ranked 13 with a 3:25.38 in Saturday’s event.
