Women’s Tennis Finishes Regular Season with a 4-3 Loss to Iowa – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team dropped its second-consecutive 4-3 decision in the regular season finale vs. Iowa Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. The No. 43 Buckeyes completed the 2003 campaign with a 12-10 overall standing and a 6-4 mark in conference action where the Hawkeyes finished with a 5-5 Big Ten tally and a 7-12 regular season record.
Ohio State was awarded the doubles point in all but four matches in the 22 game regular season. The Buckeyes recorded victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles vs. the Hawkeyes to begin the match with a 1-0 lead. The duo of Sadhaf Pervez (Sr., Warren, N.J.) and Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) defeated Iowa’s Steffi Hoch and Gloria Okino, 8-5. At No. 2, the Buckeye tandem of Erica Fisk (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.) and Jackie Leskovar (Cambridge, Ontario) topped Cassie Haas and Deni Alexandrova, 8-5.
Ohio State fell one point short of victory by posting single wins at Nos. 4 and 6. Williams won at the No. 4 spot in a straight-set match over Chelsea Glynn, 6-2, 6-4. Lindsay Bryan (So., New Orleans, La.) posted her fourth-consecutive conference win at No. 6 vs. Jennifer Hodgman, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. No. 46 Pervez fell to Steffi Hoch, 6-2, 6-1, as dropped five of her last six matches at No. 1 singles after starting the season with a 16-match win streak.
Ohio State will enter the Big Ten tournament (April 24-27 in Champaign, Ill.) as the No. 5 seed on Friday, April 25, vs. No. 4 seed Purdue (6-4 Big Ten), who won the regular season meeting, 4-3, April 5 in West Lafayette, Ind. Minnesota clinched the No. 1 seed with a 9-1 Big Ten tally and Illinois will enter as the No. 2 seed after posting an 8-2 record.
