Women’s Tennis Falls, 4-3, in Close Match to Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to No. 31 Minnesota, 4-3, Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. The Golden Gophers sit alone at the top of the Big Ten with a conference record of 8-1 and an overall record of 15-5 while the No. 43 Buckeyes move into fourth place with a 6-3 Big Ten record and a 12-9 season record. Ohio State will finish the regular season with a conference match on the road vs. Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Ohio State clinched the doubles point for the 17th time in 21 matches by posting wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. The Buckeye duo of Sadhaf Pervez (Sr., Warren, N.J.) and Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) snapped a two-match winless streak by defeating Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea, 8-3. At No. 3, Lindsey Adams (So., New Orleans, La.) and Meaghan Colville (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) downed the Gopher tandem of Brandi Watts and Kandis Batiste, 8-3.
With the 1-0 lead, Ohio State dropped straight-set matches at Nos. 2 and 4 to fall behind one point before Lindsay Bryan (So., New Orleans, La.) posted her third-consecutive Big Ten victory at No. 6 over Batiste, 7-5, 6-0. The Buckeyes lost at the No. 5 spot but Leskovar won her fourth-consecutive match at No. 3 by topping Havelkova, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, to knot the match at 3-3. At No. 1 singles, No. 46 Pervez was upset by Angela Buergis, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, for the final point of the match.
