Women’s Tennis Clenches Close Match Over Virginia Tech, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team slipped past Virginia Tech, 4-3, Sunday in Blacksburg, Va. The Buckeyes have came away victorious in seven-of-nine matches this season decided by only one point (4-3) and have won the doubles point in all 11 matches. No. 38 Senior Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) remained undefeated at No. 1 singles (11-0) and clinched the match for the third-consecutive time. The No. 47 Buckeyes improve to 9-2 on the season (3-0 Big Ten) as the Hokies drop to 10-7.
Ohio State was awarded the doubles point for the 11th-consecutive time this season as it picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At the No. 1 spot, the Buckeye duo of Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Pervez defeated Carolyn Kramer and Ginger Lowdermilk, 8-6. Erica Fisk (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.) and Jackie Leskovar (Jr., Cambridge, Ontario) defeated the Virginia Tech tandem of Elissa Kinard and Kristen Stubbs, 8-6. Buckeyes Lindsey Adams (So., Mercer Island, Wash.) and Meaghan Colville (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) snapped a four-match win streak by falling to Felice Lam and Zdenka Videnova, 8-3.
With the doubles point tallied, Ohio State extended its lead to 2-0 as Fisk defeated Kramer in a straight-set match, 6-1, 6-1. Virginia Tech posted its first point with a victory at No. 3, however, Ohio State’s Leskovar answered at No. 4 by topping Lowdermilk, 6-2, 6-4. They Buckeyes lost at No. 6 but took the 4-2 lead and clinched the game with a win at No. 1 where Pervez remained undefeated at the spot (11-0 at No. 1 singles) by downing Stubbs, 6-4, 6-4. The Hokies won at No. 5 to finish the match at 4-3 (the last six Ohio State matches have finished 4-3 with the Buckeyes victorious in four). Ohio State will not return to action until March 23 where the Buckeyes face Louisiana State at 1 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La.
