Women’s Tennis Victorious Against Maryland, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Maryland, 4-3, in a neutral match Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Ohio State extended its season-long streak of clinching the doubles point to 10. No. 38 Senior Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) remained undefeated at No. 1 singles (10-0) and clinched the match for the second-consecutive time. The No. 47 Buckeyes improve to 8-2 on the season (3-0 Big Ten) as the No. 63 Terps drop to 8-4.
Ohio State was awarded the doubles point for the 10th-consecutive time this season as it picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Erica Fisk (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.) and Jackie Leskovar (Jr., Cambridge, Ontario) snapped a two-match skid and advanced to 7-2 at No. 2 by topping the Terp tandem of Marta Jedrzejak and, 8-3. Buckeyes Lindsey Adams (So., Mercer Island, Wash.) and Meaghan Colville (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) won their fourth-consecutive match at No. 3 as they defeated Chloe Chavardes and Andrea Fusea 8-4. At the No. 1 spot, the Buckeye duo of Lindsay Williams (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Pervez broke a five-match win streak by falling to Emily Marker and Ramona But, 8-3.
In singles action, the match was a back-and-fourth battle as Maryland tied the game twice and took the lead once. With a 1-0 lead, Ohio State lost at No. 6 to even the match, 1-1, but bounced back at No. 4 as Williams defeated Fusea, 6-4, 6-4. The Terps won the next two matches at No. 3 and No. 5 to take the lead 2-3. Fisk won her first match in five games by topping Maryland’s No. 88 Marker in a match dominated by momentum, 0-6, 6-0, 6-2. Knotted at 3-3, the game came down to the No. 1 spot where No. 38 Pervez won her 10th-consecutive match by downing But, 6-4, 6-5.
Ohio State will remain in Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. Sunday.
