Buckeye Throwers Dominate Arizona State Track and Field Event – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field team concluded a second-straight event held at Arizona State’s Sun Angel Stadium Saturday as the OSU throw squad once again excelled taking five first place marks in the ASU Invitational. Junior All-American thrower Dan Taylor, who established a new program record in the weight throw during the indoor season, scored a 204-10 mark in the hammer throw to claim first in the event and automatically qualify for NCAA regional competition held at Ohio State’s Jesse Owen’s Memorial Stadium May 30 and 31. Taylor’s mark serves an Ohio State record in the hammer throw.
In all, the throw team added five regional marks as Erin Carter took first with a 48-11.50 in the women’s shot put and was followed by another qualifying effort by Alexis McCall (48-4) to place third in the event. Two other women throwers combined qualifying efforts in the women’s discus as Krista Keir, who established a program record in the event last week (186-4), claimed first for the second-straight week with a 176-11, while freshman Amarachi Ukabam scored a 169-1 qualifier to place third in the event.
Senior George Hoover, the Ohio State record holder in the javelin, added a second first place finish in as many events this season with a 211-11 effort. Taylor rounded-out the Ohio State contingent falling just shy of a regional mark with a 179-8 in the discus to record the fifth first place tally.
Also in the field events, the jump team scored first place efforts in the men’s and women’s long jump, men’s high jump, and men’s and women’s triple jump. Highlighting the event were junior Drew Carter, who scored a 24-7 first place finish in the long jump, while fellow junior Billy Mills posted a 6-9.50 for first in the high jump. Sophomore Nosa Ehimwenman added a second place 22-11.75 in the long jump before capturing first in the triple jump with a 49-9. Rosalind Goodwin led the field in the long jump with an 18-8 and in the triple jump with a 40-3.50.
Ohio State also excelled in the running events with first place scores in women’s 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles and the men’s 800-meters and steeplechase. Senior Dalanda Jackson bested teammate Molly Logan, who took first in the 100m hurdles with a qualifying mark of 13.52, in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.38.
Senior indoor All-American Rob Myers took first in the 800m with a 1:52.35, while fellow senior Derrick Butler qualified with an 8:19.55 to claim first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Ohio State returns to Columbus to serve as host to the outdoor season opening All-Ohio Championships Saturday at 11 a.m.
