No. 3 Men’s Gymnastics Places Second at Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio — The No. 3 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team placed second at the Big Ten championships Friday at St. John Arena with 218.325 point. No. 1 Penn State won the event with a total score of 220.55. Six of the Top eight teams in the nation competed with Iowa placing third (215.6) Michigan placing fourth (215.325), Minnesota placing fifth (214.3) and Illinois sixth (211.85) Randy Monahan (So., Elizabethtown, Pa) won the all-around competition with a career-high 54.5 and the defending Big Ten all-around champion, Raj Bhavsar (Sr., Houston, Texas), took third with 54.075 points. The Buckeyes are 14-4 on the season (9-3 Big Ten).
Ohio State placed first on floor with a season-high 37.45 and parallel bars with 35.975 points. The Buckeyes’ 37.025 on vault placed second.
In individual events, Monahan placed third on floor with a career-high 9.5. The Buckeyes struggled on pommel horse and Bhavsar was the highest-ranking Ohio State gymnast with an 8.95 placing 12th. Cody Trobaugh (So., Dallas, Texas) scored a 9.45 on rings and placed second. Dick Huntwork (Pickerington, Ohio) scored a 9.4 on vault and tied for second. On parallel bars, Bhavsar took second placed with a 9.25. Monahan scored 9.35 points and tied for third on high bar.
The Big Ten event finals will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John Arena.Ohio State’s next and final meet is the NCAA championships April 11-13 in Philadelphia, Pa.
