Three Members of OSU Track and Field Complete Action at 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State’s national qualifiers concluded competition at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Indoor Track Saturday as junior All-American thrower Dan Taylor (Jr., Middlefield, Ohio/ Berkshire) captured a second place finish in the men’s shot put with a 21.33-meter effort, falling just shy of the 21.49-meter mark set by champion Carl Mayerscough of Nebraska. Ohio State stands in 16th place in the men’s team standings following 31 events.
Taylor coupled his runner-up standing in the shot put with a third place 21.00m effort in the weight throw Friday. Taylor, who was named United States Track and Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the weight throw and shot put at the Big Ten Championships last week, posted his 21.33m effort on his second throw.
Also competing in the throw events was sophomore Keturah Lofton (Zanesville, Ohio/ Zanesville), who recorded a 19.01m mark to earn an 11th place finish. Lofton joined fellow female thrower Krista Keir (Sr., Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville North) as an NCAA qualifier. Keir placed 17th in Friday’s shot put event.
Distance runner Rob Myers (Sr., Rushville, Ohio/ Fairfield Union) advanced to Saturday’s finals with a qualifying mark in Friday’s preliminary rounds. Myers scored a Top 10 finish as he posted a 4:07.36 to earn eighth. Chris Mulvaney of host Arkansas won the event with a 4:05.70.
Hurdler Molly Logan (Darby, Pa.) competed Friday in the 60-meter hurdles but failed to earn a berth in the finals, as did senior hurdler Joel Brown (Baltimore, Md./ Woodlawn), who missed earning a berth in Saturday’s final by .01 with a mark of 7.78 in the men’s 60-meter hurdles.
Ohio State stands in a tie with seven other schools for 16th place with six overall points following the completion of 31 events.
