Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State’s national qualifiers competed Friday in the first day of action at the 2003 Indoor NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Dan Taylor, the 2003 Big Ten Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year, competed in the championship’s initial event Friday as he claimed Ohio State’s first men’s national title in track and field since 1994 with a 21.00m (68-10.75) effort in the weight throw. Taylor scored his mark on his first throw of the day as he recorded Ohio State’s first national title in the weight throw.
Taylor, who posted the best mark in the nation in the weight throw in 2003 at 22.35m, joins the members of the 1994 4×100-meter relay squad (Chris Brooks, Butler By’not’e, Rich Jones and Chris Sanders) as indoor national champions.
Taylor will vie for a sweep of the throw events Saturday at noon in the shot put competition.
Also competing for the Buckeyes Friday is senior Krista Keir in the women’s shot put and hurdler Molly Logan in the 60-meter hurdles.
