Women’s Track and Field Sixth after Day One – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s track and field team is currently in 6th place with 19 points through six scored events at the 2003 Big Ten championships. Indiana University is playing host to the event at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind.
Nicholette Chambers (Jr., New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) turned in an Ohio State record-setting performance scoring 3,793 points to capture the conference title in the pentathlon. Chambers combined a first place finish in the 800-meter run (2:28.66) of the event with second place performances in the 60-meter hurdles (8.49) and the long jump (5.48m/ 18-0.25) to capture the title.
In the throwing events, the Buckeyes placed four individuals in the Top 11 of the women’s shot put with Krista Keir (Jr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) leading the way. Keir placed second with a throw of 16.26m (53-04.25). Erin Carter (Sr., Logan, Ohio) also scored points for the Buckeyes with an eighth place finish throwing a distance of 48-09.50, while junior Alexis McCall (Elyria, Ohio) and freshman Amarachi Ukabam (Creve Couer, Mo.) took 10th and 11th.
Molly Logan (Jr., Darby, Pa./Penn Wood Senior) and Brandi Hogan (So., Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional Academy) continued their strong showings in the 60-meter hurdles qualifying for the tomorrow’s final.
Competition will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the women’s weight throw.
