Women’s Volleyball Stacey Gordon Named All-Big Ten And Briana McCarthy Named To All-Freshman Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced today that Ohio State outside hitter Stacey Gordon (Jr., Oshawa, Ontario) had been named to the 2003 All-Big Ten Team. Also honored by a vote of the league coaches was setter Briana McCarthy (Fr., Beaver Dan, Wis.) who was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Gordon, a unanimous selection, is a three-time All-Big Ten selection. She finished the conference season as the Big Ten statistical champion in kills per game at 6.77. Gordon ranked six in digs (3.56), seventh in aces (.32) and 14th in hitting percentage. With an overall 6.62 kills per game average (708 kills, 107 games), Gordon has set the all-time Big Ten record, previously held by Ohio State’s Vanessa Wouters at 6.43 (765 kills, 119 games) in 1996. Her career kill total of 1,956 has moved to seventh on the Big Ten career kills list.
McCarthy started the last 26 matches of the season at setter. She opened the season at outside hitter for the first two matches. McCarthy ranked eighth in Big Ten conference matches with a 12.43 assist per game average. She averaged 1.60 digs and .87 blocks per game and hit .241. McCarthy recorded 1,234 assists for the season and ranks seventh on the OSU career list and her 11.53 per game average is fourth on the OSU career list.
