Women’s Tennis Concludes Play at Kentucky Fall Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves), Lindsay Bryan (Jr., New Orleans, La./Ursuline Academy), Kristen Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Fr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) all won consolation matches, while Anna Volberg (Fr., Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) lost in the final of the Green Flight as play concluded Sunday at the Kentucky Fall Classic in Lexington, Ky.
Playing in the first flight final of her college career, Volberg fell in straight sets to fellow freshman Lara Maurer of host Kentucky, 6-2, 6-2. Previously, Volberg defeated Christine Simpson of Kentucky and Kelly Nelson of Notre Dame to reach the final.
In a Blue Flight consolation match, Williams topped Shawna Zuccarini of conference foe Purdue while Messmer defeated Marshall’s Holly Asel in a Green Flight consolation. One Red Flight consolation featured a battle of Buckeyes, as Bryan beat teammate Emily Howard (So., Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit). Ruzimovsky’s victory came in three sets against Summer Beesley of Abilene Christian.
The Buckeyes resume play Oct. 22-28 at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at Kalamazoo, Mich.
