Women’s Tennis Finds Success at Kentucky Fall Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Emily Howard (So., Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Lindsay Bryan (Sr., New Orleans, La./Ursuline Academy) won the Red Flight doubles title while Anna Volberg (Fr., Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) advanced to the Green Flight singles final at the Kentucky Fall Classic in Lexington, Ky.
Howard and Bryan narrowly defeated Israel and Yarbrough of Abilene Christian, 9-7, in the semifinal before easily stopping Hill and Vest from Marshall, 8-2, in the final.
Volberg and Lindsay Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) were the only Buckeyes competing in the singles main draw on Saturday. Needing three sets, Volberg defeated Kelly Nelson of Notre Dame, while Adams fell in the semifinals to Lara Maurer of host Kentucky.
Also in singles, in the Green Flight, Kristen Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) defeated Ana Maria Cibils of Middle Tennessee State. Howard and Bryan also were victorious in consolations of the Red Flight. Howard defeated Abilene Christian’s Joy Israel in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Bryan blanked Alison Tetrick, also of Abilene Christian, 6-0, 6-0.
In additional doubles play, Adams and Messmer teamed to defeat Reynolds and Taylor of Abilene Christian in a consolation final of the White Flight.
Play concludes Sunday at the Kentucky Fall Classic with four singles flights.
