Women’s Tennis Competes at Kentucky Fall Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Anna Volberg (Fr., Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) and Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) reached the semifinals in the Green Flight to lead the way for the Buckeyes on the first day of play at the Kentucky Fall Classic in Lexington, Ky.
Volberg got the opening-round win over Kentucky’s Christine Simpson ahead in the third set when Simpson retired because of injury. Volberg topped Purdue’s Emily Bombersback in straight sets in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinal round. Adams won a close match over Middle Tennessee State’s Ana Maria Cibils (7-5, 6-3) in the Round of 16 and topped Meghan Skalsky of Marshall in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) in the quarters.
In the White Flight consolations, Sonia Ruzimovsky (Fr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) posted a win over Abilene Christian’s Ashley Hawk in three sets. Buckeye Kristin Messmer (Fr., Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) beat William & Mary’s Krista Dunbar in straight sets in a Green Flight consolation match.
Play continues Saturday and Sunday at the tournament. It includes four singles and doubles flights.
