Women’s Tennis Plays Strongly in First Round at ITA Midwest Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis senior Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike) and junior Jackie Leskovar (Cambridge, Ontario/ North Carolina State) each won first round matches Saturday in the main draw at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The 64-player singles main draw began Saturday with three Buckeyes in action. In the first round Fisk defeated Cassie Drake of Northern Illinois, 6-4, 7-5, and Leskovar upset No. 66-ranked and No. 5-8 seed Michelle Dacosta of Michigan, 6-4, 7-5. Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Grove) was beaten narrowly in three sets by Eastern Michigan’s Ying Kansuthi, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Fisk and Leskovar each saw their runs end in the Round of 32 Saturday. No. 30 ranked Liina Suurvarik of Illinois State topped Fisk in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Leskovar fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, to Christian Thomas of Notre Dame.
In the doubles main draw Fisk and Leskovar were also in action. They were defeated in the Round of 16 by No. 3 seed Cynthya Goulet and Jennifer McGaffigan of Illinois, 8-4. The Buckeye duo reached the round by winning two matches on Friday.
Play continues at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship at Kalamazoo, Mich., through the weekend and concludes Tuesday.
