Women’s Tennis Defeats Marquette, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Marquette, 6-1, in Milwaukee, Wis., Friday. After a hard-fought doubles competition, the Buckeyes clinched the match by winning 5-of-6 singles matches.
The No. 40-ranked Buckeyes will remain in Milwaukee to play Baylor 3 p.m. Saturday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. They will return home to face Big Ten rivals Michigan State Feb. 14 and Michigan Feb. 16.
No. 75-ranked senior Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) remained perfect in dual match play, defeating Michelle Mojzis, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded her first dual victory of the year, topping Eva Trujillo-Herrera in a quick match, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2. At No. 3, Jackie Leskovar (So., Cambridge, Ontario) lost the first set before coming back to beat Anabelle Espinosa in a super tiebreaker. Lindsay Bryan (So., New Orleans, La.) posted a victory over Anna Pavlovic at No. 5 and Lindsey Adams (So./Mercer Island, Wash.) topped Alexandra Stankovic, with both winning in straight sets.
In doubles, the Buckeyes won 2-of-3 matches. Fisk and Leskovar posted a victory at No. 1 over Pavlovic and Mojzis, while Bryan and Pervez won a close set at No. 3 over Herrera and Stankovic, 9-7.
“We came out slow in doubles, but we gutted it out,” Frank Polito, OSU coach, said. “I was happy about Pervez and Bryan in doubles. Sadhaf and Erica stepped up in singles and set the tone for the match. I was proud of their performance in singles after a tough doubles match.”
