The Ohio State Invitational Time Schedule
COLUMBUS,Ohio -The Ohio State men ‘s and women ‘s track and field teams will return to Columbus this Saturday to compete in the Ohio State Invitational.The meet will begin with the running events and field events beginning at 11:00 am Saturday at French Field House.
The event field includes eight representatives from the Mid-American Conference as well as squads from each of Division I-AA,II and III, including Central State,Dayton,Ashland and East- ern Kentucky.Those competing from the MAC include Akron,Bowling Green,Kent State, Marshall,Miami (Ohio),Ohio,and Toledo.
LAST TIME OUT
The Ohio State men ‘s and women ‘s track and field teams placed second and third,respectively, against Big Ten rivals Purdue and Indiana,while competing in a tri-meet at Purdue University last Saturday.
Purdue edged out Ohio State on the men ‘s side,finishing the meet with 114.50 points.The Buckeyes finished with 106 points to place second. On the women ‘s side,Indiana placed first with a total of 130 points,while Ohio State finished with 98 points,finishing third.
The women scored a majority of their points in the fields events,with first place finishes in the weight throw,high jump and shot put.
Keturah Lofton (So.,Zanesville,Ohio/ Zanesville),who provisionally qualified for the 2003 indoor championships last week at the Illinois Invitational,placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 18.26 meters.Tami Smith (Sr.,Galloway, Ohio/Westland),took first in the high jump for the third consecutive week with a jump of 1.74 meters.Krista Keir (Sr.,Westerville,Ohio/ Westerville),capped off an impressive showing in the field events finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 15.70 meters. On the men ‘s side,Dan Taylor (Jr.,Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire),finished first in the shot put and weight throw.Taylor,won the weight throw with a toss of 21.66 meters and the shot put with a throw of 19.45 meters,which equals the school record he set just one week ago.Taylor ‘s figure in the weight throw was also good for an Ohio State program record as he bested his own mark of 21.09 m.
The men also received first place finishes from Joel Brown (Sr.,Baltimore,MD/Woodlawn)in the 60-meter hurdles,John Morris (So.,Camden, N.J.)and Seth MacCarter (Jr.,Chillicothe,Ohio/ Chillicothe)in the pole vault.Brown,won the event in a time of 7.93,while MacCarter posted a height of 4.88 meters.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
This year ‘s Ohio State Invitational is comprised of eight schools from the Mid-American Conference along with several Division I-AA,II and III schools.
The meet will feature Mid-American Conference Athletes of the week in Greg Corbitt and Beata Rudzinska both from the University of Akron.
Along with their athlete of the week honors both Rudzinska and McFarland have provisionally qualified for the 2003 NCAA championships.

JOEL BROWN
Joel Brown (Jr.,Baltimore,Md./Woodlawn) continued his fast start to the 2003 Indoor season by placing first in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 7.93 seconds.
KRISTA KEIR
Krista Keir (Jr.,Westerville,Ohio/Westerville) opened the 2003 indoor season by taking first place honors in the shot put at the Buckeye Invitational and followed that with another first place performance at the Purdue Tri-Meet with a throw of 15.70 m.
GREG NORMAN
Greg Norman (Jr.,Baltimore,Md./Woodlawn) broke the French Field House record in the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.88 seconds during the Buckeye Invitational.Norman also took first place honors in the 60 meter dash at the Illinois Invitational.
TAMI SMITH
Tami Smith (Sr.,Galloway,Ohio/Westland) Last Week in West Lafayette,Ind.Smith took first-place honors for the third consecutive week in the high jump…Smith began her 2003 season by provisionally qualifying for the 2003 NCAA championships in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet.
DAN TAYLOR
Dan Taylor (Jr.,Middlefield,Ohio/ Berkshire)provisionally qualified for the 2003 NCAA track and field championships with a throw of 61 feet 10 inches in the first meet of the season …Last week at West Lafayette, Ind.Taylor broke the school record in the weight throw a record which he set the previous week at the Illinois Invitational.
TAYLOR OFF TO A FAST START
Ohio State junior thrower Dan Taylor earned Big Ten men ‘s track and field athlete of the week for the second consecutive week on Jan.21 after posting a pair of first place finishes at the Illinois Invitational Invitational last Saturday and the Buckeye Invitational on Jan.11.
Taylor,a 2002 indoor and outdoor All- American,won both the shot put and the weight throw .His throw of 19.45 meters in the shot put stands as tops in Ohio State history,while his 21.66 m figure in the weight throw at the Purdue Tri-Meet also qualifies as a school record,breaking his own mark of 21.09 meters.
LOFTON JOINS FELLOW BUCKEYES SMITH AND TAYLOR
Keturah Lofton provisionally qualified for the 2003 NCAA championships in the weight throw at the Illinois Invitational.Lofton ‘s provisional qualification for the NCAA championships allows her to join fellow Buckeyes Tami Smith and Dan Taylor in national competition.
MEET COACH RUSS ROGERS
In his 15 years at Ohio State,Russ Rogers has produced more than 100 Big Ten indoor and outdoor track and field champions,10 NCAA indoor and outdoor champions and 73 All-Americans.Rogers has more than 30 years of head coaching experience in national and international track and field.Rogers came to Ohio State from Fairleigh Dickinson University where he served as the head coach for men ‘s and women ‘s track and field as well as the cross country teams for 10 years.
OHIO STATE PLAYS HOSTS TO NCAA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The NCAA has announced that The Ohio State University has been awarded the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional Championships to be held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on May 30 and 31.
The championships are a two-day event that will feature over 900 collegiate athletes.
