COLUMBUS,Ohio -The Ohio State women ‘s tennis team will continue its road journey this weekend in Milwaukee,Wis.,against Marquette Friday and Baylor Saturday.The Buckeyes will return home to face Big Ten rivals Michigan State Feb.14 and Michigan Feb.16.
RANKED BUCKEYES
Ohio State is ranked No.40 in the Jan.13 pre- season poll and Sadhaf Pervez is ranked No.75. The Buckeyes are the fourth Big Ten team to appear in the rankings with Northwestern at No. 12,Wisconsin at No.30 and Michigan at No.37. In the fall regional rankings released Dec.10, Pervez is ranked No.7 and Erica Fisk is ranked No.25.The duo of Meaghan Colville and Fisk are ranked No.13 in the region.
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette already has played four dual matches this year,however,they have yet to record a victory. The Golden Eagles played their first two games at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium,where the Buckeyes will play both games this weekend,before heading west to Arizona where they faced Arizona and San Diego.
Junior Veronica Garcia Briseno is the only undefeated player for Marquette going 4-0 in dual matches from the No.3 and No.4 positions. Garcia Briseno is 13-5 on the year.
Head coach Jody Bronson is in her 18th season at Marquette.Since her inaugural season in 1985- 86,Bronson has guided her team to 12 winning seasons,including three Conference USA championships and five runner-up showings.
SCOUTING BAYLOR
Like OSU,No.43 Baylor has played only one dual match this season,however,it challenged eighth-ranked LSU on the road and came up short in a 6-1 loss.Baylor was one of the seven schools to compete in the Sept.20-22 OSU/Prince Cup, where the Golden Bears went 3-2 against Buckeye individuals and split 1-1 with doubles.
No.45 Vida Mulec was defeated by No.32 Sarah Riske of Louisiana State and sophomore Barbora Blautiakova posted the Bears ‘lone victory with a win at No.6 singles.
Baylor has three singles ranked in the Southwest Region,No.2 Mulec,No.18 Stephanie Balzert and No.22 Daria Potapova.The duo of Balzert and Mulec is ranked No.9 in the region.
Joey Scrivano,who led South Alabama ‘s women ‘s tennis team to three-straight NCAA appearances, was hired in July as Baylor ‘s associate director of intercollegiate tennis.Scrivano works closely with Matt Knoll,Baylor ‘s director of intercollegiate tennis.
