Women’s Tennis Wins First Big Ten Match Over Penn State – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Penn State, 4-3, in the first dual match of the year Sunday in State College, Pa. The Buckeyes recorded victories in all three doubles matches and posted three singles wins to start their season with a Big Ten victory. The Buckeyes will continue road play in Milwaukee, Wis., against Marquette on Friday and Baylor on Saturday. Ohio State will return home to face Big Ten rivals Michigan State on Feb. 14 and Michigan Feb. 16.
No. 75 senior Sadhaf Pervez (Warren, N.J.) played at the No. 1 spot for the Buckeyes and defeated Megan Marton, 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 2 spot, Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the first set, 6-7 (5), against Leigh Ann Merryman of Penn State, however, fell the next two hard-fought battles, 6-2, 7-5. Penn State’s Maarian Husain defeated Jackie Leskovar (Jr./N.C. State), 6-0, 7-5. In the No. 4 match-up, Lindsay Williams defeated Judy Wang in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Senior Michelle Matko, who did not compete in fall tournaments due to injury, fell short in three sets against Sarah Spece, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Sophomore transfer Emily DeCamilla (So./Maryland) recorded her first-career Big Ten victory as a Buckeye against Lindsay Dowing , 7-6, 3-6, 7-6(0).
In No. 1 doubles, Pervez and Lindsay Williams (Beverly Hills, Mich.) upset Nittany Lions No. 47 Megan Marton and Judy Wang, 8-4. Playing at the No. spot, Fisk and Leskovar defeated Merryman and Husain, 8-2. Doubles specialists Meighan Colville (Jr./Toronto, Ontario) and Lindsey Adams (So./Mercer Island, Wash.) recorded an 8-2 victory over the Downing and McKeown duo.
