Men’s And Women’s Track Place Second and Third Against Big Ten Foes – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams placed second and third, respectively, against Big Ten rivals Purdue and Indiana, while competing in a tri-meet at Purdue University on Saturday.
Purdue edged out Ohio State on the men’s side, finishing the meet with 114.50 points. The Buckeyes finished with 106 points, to place second. On the women’s side, Indiana placed first with a total of 130 points, while Ohio State finished with 98 points, finishing third.
The women scored a majority of their points in the fields events, with first place finishes in the weight throw, high jump and shot put.
Keturah Lofton (So., Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville), who provisionally qualified for the 2003 indoor championships last week at the Illinois Invitational, placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 18.26 meters. Tami Smith (Sr., Galloway, Ohio/Westland), took first in the high jump for the third consecutive week with a jump of 1.74 meters. Krista Keir (Sr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville), capped off an impressive showing in the field events finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 15.70 meters.
On the men’s side, Dan Taylor (Jr., Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire), finished first in the shot put and weight throw. Taylor, won the weight throw with a toss of 21.66 meters and the shot put with a throw of 19.45 meters, which equals the school record he set just one week ago. Taylor’s figure in the weight throw was also good for an Ohio State program record as he bested his own mark of 21.09 m.
The men also received first place finishes from Joel Brown (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) in the 60-meter hurdles and Seth MacCarter (Jr., Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) in the pole vault. Brown, won the event in a time of 7.93, while MacCarter posted a height of 4.88 meters.
The Buckeyes will return to Columbus, Ohio next week, to compete in the Ohio State Invitational.
