Women’s Swimming & Diving Falls to Michigan State, 138-105 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, OH – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team fell to 7-3 on the season and 0-2 in Big Ten play as the Michigan State Spartans prevailed over the Buckeyes, 138-105, Friday at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center. Freshman Deanna Strunk (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) was the winner of two of the three swimming events the Buckeyes took on the evening. Strunk placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.31) as well as the 200 butterfly (2:07.22). Her time in the 200 IM was a team season’s best.
The Spartans were led in the pool by sophomore Tammy Jones who was a double individual winner in the 200 freestyle and the 100 free. Senior Kate Duncombe continued dominance in backstroke events, taking first for Michigan State in the 200 back at a time of 2:05.24.
The Buckeyes ruled in diving, however, on what was the team’s diving Senior Day. The team took the Top 3 spots in the 1-meter and first, second and fourth-place in the 3-meter. Natalia Diea (Sr., Austin, Texas/University of Texas) took first in both diving events. Melanie Johnson (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights) returned to the team, competing in her first dual meet of the season and took second in both the 1- and 3-meter.
The women’s swimming and diving team will take to the road and head to Champaign. Ill. for a tri-meet against Iowa and Illinois, Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
