Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes 140-103 Victory Over Akron – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, OH – Stephanie Raezer (Jr., Newark, Del./Glasgow) was a triple winner and Katie Severson (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) won two events as the Ohio State women’s swimming defeated Akron, 140-103, Friday at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center. The win improved the Buckeyes season record to 7-1, the best start in four seasons under head coach Jeanne Fleck.
Despite losing the first race of the evening, the 200-yard medley relay, the Buckeyes would proceed to take first in all but one of the 12 remaining competitions at the meet. Raezer would start the winning off with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:17.43. She would also take first in the 500 free (5:04.91) and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.93, a team season’s best. Severson’s reigned in spring freestyle events where she took first in both the 50 free (24.56) and the 100 free (53.04).
In the diving well, Natalia Diea (Sr., Austin, Texas/University of Texas) swept both events, taking the 1-meter dive with score of 280.80 and the 3-meter with a 303.60, a team season’s best.
The Buckeyes will put their 7-1 record on the line against the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center. The team will honor its four seniors Kim Bojko (N. Canton, Ohio/Hoover), Nicole Hamilton (N. Canton, Ohio/GlenOak), Stacy Lowry (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Amanda Treleaven (Colonial Light, Australia/Norwood) prior to the meet.
