Rincon Falls to No. 7-Seed Peterson in NCAA Singles Tournament – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis senior Monica Rincon (Lapeer, Mich./West) ended her season and her Buckeye career with a loss to No. 7-seed Jewel Peterson of Southern California in the opening round of the 2002 NCAA Singles Championship.
Peterson, ranked eighth in the nation, topped No. 68-ranked Rincon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Peterson advances to face Wake Forest’s Janet Bergman in the second round.
Rincon ends her Buckeye career second on the career singles wins list with 101, just three short of the program record of 104. This season, she posted a singles record of 25-10 to lead the squad, including a mark of 18-4 at No. 1 singles this spring.
