Women’s Tennis Defeated by No. 20 Notre Dame, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis was defeated on the road by No. 20 Notre Dame, today in Notre Dame, Ind. The loss drops No. 38-ranked Ohio State to 9-2 on the season, while the Irish improve to 9-5.
The Buckeyes return to action Sunday when they face DePaul in a neutral site match in Notre Dame, Ind. at 10 a.m.
The Buckeyes won the doubles point, winning two-of-three matches. The OSU tandem of Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) posted a win at No. 1, as they upset the No. 30-ranked team of Lindsey Green and Becky Varnum. At No. 2, Buckeyes Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) improved to 8-1 this spring with a victory over Katie Cunha and Nina Vaughan. Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) fell at No. 3 to Sarah Jane Connelly and Alicia Salas.
In singles, the Irish won five matches to earn the win. No. 85-ranked Rincon won the lone match for the Buckeyes, as she came back to top No. 73 Beck Varnum at No. 1. At No. 4, Ohio State’s Matko had a close match, falling to No. 127-ranked Salas, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-8). The other three Buckeye losses were in straight sets. Williams lost her first match of the spring, losing at No. 6 to Connelly, 6-3, 6-4.
