Women’s Tennis Tops Boston University – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team picked up another win today as it shut out the Boston University Terriers this morning (7-0) at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The win gave the Buckeyes their 12th consecutive victory at home, which eclipses the OSU all-time mark set in 2000. The Buckeyes are 14-2 overall on the season, 2-1 in the Big Ten, while the Terriers fall to 2-5 overall on the season. The loss was BU’s fourth against nationally ranked opponents.
Ohio State won the doubles point as it swept all three matches. At No. 1, Buckeyes Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan), 56th in the nation, defeated the duo of Christina Causway and Lindsey Dynof, 8-1. At No. 2, OSU’s Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) were victorious against the Terriers’ Elena deMendoza and Silvia Guglielmi, 8-3. Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) won at the No. 3 spot, topping Alana Marcu and Hannah Bartell, 8-3.
The Buckeyes won all six singles matches. No. 54 Rincon easily defeated Causway, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 and No. 48 Fisk followed suit and came back and beat Dynof, after dropping the second set, 6-3, 4-6, (10-2). No. 119 Pervez won her 18th singles match of the season against the Terriers’ deMendoza 6-1, 6-3 at the number three spot. Matko also continued her winning ways with a straight-set victory over the Terriers’ Guglielmi 6-2, 6-3. Williams and Meaghan Colville each won their matches respectively at the five and six spot with victories over Boston University’s Marcu and Elisa Glas. Williams won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) while Colville also helped her team as she rebounded after losing the second set to come back and take the third and final set, 6-1, 2-6, (10-4). The Buckeyes return to action tomorrow when they play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes at 10 a.m. The Hawkeyes (3-6 overall) are ranked 50th in the nation and were 1-1 in the Big Ten Conference before heading into their match with Penn State today.
