Women’s Tennis Tops Drake University – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team picked up two wins today as it shutout Bowling Green this morning (7-0) and the Drake University Bulldogs this evening, 7-0. The win gave the Buckeyes their 11th consecutive victory at home, which ties the OSU all-time mark. The Buckeyes are 13-2 overall on the season, 2-1 in the Big Ten, while the Bulldogs fell to 4-5 overall on the season.
Ohio State won the doubles point as it swept the doubles competition. At No. 1, Buckeyes Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan), 56th in the nation, defeated the duo of Cecily Dubusker and Cynthia Skogerboe, 8-2. At No. 2, OSU’s Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) were victorious against Drake’s Annali de Bruyn and Jennifer Saluri, 8-3. Claudia Castro (Dublin, Oh., Aquinas High) and Lindsey Adams (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island High) won at the No. 3 spot, topping Melinda Fenimore and Marie Mainil, 8-3.
The Buckeyes won all six singles matches for the second time today. No. 54 Rincon easily defeated Dubusker, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 and No. 48 Fisk came back and beat de Bruyn after losing the first set 5-7, 6-4, (7). No. 119 Pervez won her second singles match of the day against Drake’s Skogerboe 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Matko also continued her winning ways with a straight set victory over the Bulldogs’ Fenimore 6-2, 6-0. Colville and Castro each won their matches respectively at the five and six spots with victories over Drake’s Saluri and Traci Hogan. Colville won 6-2, 6-0. Castro also helped her team’s cause with a 6-2, 7-5 straight set victory. The Buckeyes return to action Saturday when they play host to Boston University at 10 a.m. Ohio State hopes to keep the ball rolling as it was a perfect 3-0 on the week and winners of four out of its last five.
