Women’s Tennis Records 6-1 Win over Marquette – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State women’s tennis team remained perfect on the season, as it topped Marquette, 6-1, in a nonconference match at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center today.
The Buckeyes, who are ranked No. 33 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, are now 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Big Ten. They have won 24 of their last 27 home matches. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 1-4 this spring.
For the sixth consecutive match, the Buckeyes did not drop a doubles match and earned the doubles point. Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) defeated the Golden Eagles’ Gen Charron and Vero Brisano at No. 1, 8-3. At No. 2 match Buckeyes Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) won easily, 8-1, over Anna Pavlovic and Eva Trujillo. Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) completed the Buckeye sweep, beating Alex Stankovic and Belle Espinos, 8-6.
Ohio State won at the top five singles positions. Rincon recorded an easy win at No. 1, shutting out Charron, 6-0, 6-0. Against Trujillo, Fisk struggled through the first set, winning 7-5, before going on to win the second set, 6-1. Pervez topped Espinosa at No. 3, Matko beat Briseno at No. 4 and Williams defeated Pavlovic at No. 5 in straight sets. Against Alex Stankovic at No. 6, Lindsay Bryan (Fr., New Orleans, La./Ursuline Academy) lost the first set but battled back to even the match in the second. Bryan then lost in a tiebreaker. After a weekend off, the Buckeyes continue their homestand when they play host to Maryland at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and Kansas at 10 a.m. Feb. 17. The matches will be contested at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. Admission is free.
