Women’s Swimming and Diving Fall At Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$Columbus, Ohio-The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team placed 11th at the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. over the weekend with 116 points. Penn State took first place with a score of 594, Indiana came in second (561) and Wisconsin placed third (447).%^$
%^$Four different Buckeyes placed in the top ten to lead OSU. In the 1-meter dive, Melanie Johnson (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights) placed ninth with a score of 256.65 while Jillian Cicione (Jr., Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas) placed eighth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 464.20. In the 200 freestyle, Kylie Lancken (Fr., Sydney, Australia) placed 10th with a season-best time of 1:50.16, and Amanda Treleaven (So., Colonial Light Australia) took eighth in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 56.72.%^$
%^$Coach Fleck saw a lot of positive things at the championships that she and the Buckeyes have to look forward to in 2002-03. Of the 116 points scored by the Buckeyes, 99 were scored by freshman and sophomores. There also were 33 individual best times and 26 season best times (not including life time best times). In addition, the 800 freestyle relay team was 11 seconds faster than last year and the 200 freestyle relay was three seconds better from 2001.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes will now prepare for the NCAA Championships, which are held in Austin, Texas, March 21-23.%^$
