Day Two Of Men’s Big Ten Championships Cancelled – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Due to the tragic death of Penn State pole vaulter Kevin Dare on the opening day of the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, the remainder of the meet has been cancelled. Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany announced this morning the meet, hosted by Minnesota, will not be rescheduled.
Dare, a sophomore died Saturday after attempting a vault and hit his head on the ground. After being treated by EMTs on site and at the University of Minnesota Field House, he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later as a result on a fatal head trauma.
At noon today, coaches and student-athletes honored Dare in a memorial service.
On Saturday, Ohio State Dan Taylor (So., Middlefield, Ohio/Berkshire) received an automatic NCAA bid with a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 62-5.
Ohio State returns to action when they compete at the USATF Indoor Championships March 1 and 2 in Atlanta, Ga.
