Women’s Tennis Loses to Wisconsin, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State women’s tennis team lost its first match of the season, falling on the road to Wisconsin, 5-2. The loss ends the No. 35 Buckeyes’ eight-match winning streak, the best start to open a season in program history. OSU drops to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten. The No. 41-ranked Badgers improve to 7-2 and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.%^$
%^$For the first time this spring, the Buckeyes lost the doubles point, as they failed to win a doubles match. The tandem of Monica Rincon (Sr., Lapeer, Mich./West) and Meaghan Colville (So., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan) was defeated at No. 1 by Linde Mues and Lara Vojnov, the No. 50-ranked doubles team in the nation. At No. 2, Buckeyes Erica Fisk (So., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Sadhaf Pervez (Jr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) lost their first match of the spring, falling to Katie Dougherty and Teresa Gonzaga, 8-6. At No. 3, Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) and Lindsay Williams (So., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves), fell to 8-1 in the spring with a loss to Lindsay Martin and Katie McGaffigan.%^$
%^$The Badgers won 4-of-6 singles matches to clinch the win. No. 71-ranked Vanessa Rauh topped No. 85 Rincon at No. 1, her first singles loss of the spring. UW’s Mues defeated No. 49 Erica Fisk at No. 2 and at No. 3, No. 82 Pervez was beaten by Shana McElroy in three sets. Martin completed the Badger winners with a victory over Colville at No. 3.%^$
%^$Matko and Williams posted singles wins for the Buckeyes. Matko topped McGaffigan at No. 4 in a close set, as each competitor won one set in a tiebreaker. The duo went to a tiebreaker to decide the match, with Matko coming out victorious. Williams easily defeated Dougherty, 6-0, 6-1.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes return to action at 11 a.m. EST Sunday at Minnesota.%^$
