COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., Friday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. to take on West Virginia and Louisville at the WVU Natatorium.
The Buckeyes are coming off an impressive 130-113 victory over Ohio Oct. 25, marking the team’s first win of the season.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
The Moutaineers finished 6-4 in the Big East Conference last year, which was the best record since West Virginia joined the conference.
The Moutaineers lost seven letterwinners from last year’s squad.
The powerhouse of the team is junior Devlyn Quinn, a freestyler. Quinn broke school records in the both the 50-free and 100-free events at the conference meet last spring.
Sarah Crouch, Mary Dabkowoski, Lee Ann Johnston will provide much needed experience to the team comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores.
Manuela Trabert and Livia Casacao were heavy contributors to last year’s team in the freestyle event and are also expected to contibute to this year’s squad.
Sophomore Kristen Mofatt and freshman Joanne Hunt will compete in the diving events.
MOUNTAINEERS’ LAST MEET
The Mountaineers fell to 3-2 last Saturday, to Rutgers University,188-107.
Freshman Megan Carlson walked away a winner with her first victory in the backstroke
Freshman Jackie Graulty racked in her first win in the 100 butterfly event with a time of 1:01.26. Diver Kristen Moffat placed second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter board.
LAST TIME VS. WEST VIRGINIA
The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated West Virginia, 133-102, at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center of Nov. 9, 2001. The Buckeyes won eight of the 11 swimming events and both diving events. Stacy Lowry won her first ever collegiate individual event, taking first in the 200 individual medley, with a time of 2;13.72. Amanda Treleaven won the 100 backstroke with a time of :57.29.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
The 2002-03 Louisville women’s swimming and diving team has a tough schedule this year competing aginst Cincinnatti and Texas Christian University, finished first and third in the Conference USA last year.
THE CARDINALS’ LAST
Louisville played host to TCU and Cincinnati last Saturday.
The Cradinals fell to TCU in a three-way dual meet. Louisville lost 48-29 and 43-23, but had strong showings in multiple events.
Diver Jerilyn Drummond won the 3-meter dive in the moring session. Drummond also one first place in the 1-meter.
Freshman Lauren Bullock took the 200-free and 500-free, winning both events.
Louisville also competed against Cincinnati, falling 62-22 and 54-21 in a three- way dual meet.
In the 1-meter dive event, sophomore Allyson Mader and senior Katie Collins placed second and third.
Sophomore Angie Nicolletta triend to pull off two big wins for the Cardinals, but placed fourth in the 200-free.
RECAP AGAINST OHIO UNIVERSITY
The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team took a dramtic win over Ohio University, 130-113. The Buckeyes won the final relay which placed them in the lead over the Bobcats.
The meet came down to the final competition of the evening, the 400 freestyle relay, where the Buckeyes team consisting of Kylie Lancken, Katie Severson, Lindsay Goodson and Nicole Maglich took first place in the race 3:33.16.
In diving, the Buckeyes had a strong showing, with Natalia Diea (292.05), Jillian Cicione (228.08) and Rachel Pichacz (221.48) taking the Top 3 spots in the 1-meter competition. In the 3-meter, Diea (185.75) and Cicione (158.40) once again finished No. 1 and 2.
SCARLET VS. GRAY
The annual Scarlet and Gray meet was held on Oct. 11, 2002.
Deanna Strunk, Marianne Sharp, Nicole Maglich, Nicole Maglich, Kylie Lancken and Stacy Lowry contributed heavily to the gray team in individual events. Collectively these swimmers racked in 70 points.
Although, the scarlet team was defeated Stephanie Raezar, Amanda Treleaven, Ashley Routson, Kim Reinhardt, Ashley Barnes, Meghan Mahoney, Nicole Hamilton and Natrale Bojko stepped up for the scarlet team in the individual events.
The gray team won 102-95.
ABOUT COACH FLECK
Coach Jeanne Fleck, enters her fourth season at the helm of the Ohio State women’s swimming program looking for her team to display excellence both in the water and classroom. She has become accustomed to both throughout her coaching career.
The Buckeyes also excelled in the classroom with an overall grade point average of 3.34 last season.
It was no coincidence that seven Buckeyes were named Academic All-Big Ten following the winter quarter and that 16 earned OSU Scholar-Athlete honors. As a unit, the Ohio State women’s swimming program took home team Academic All-America honors awarded by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the 2001-02 season. In three seasons, Fleck has engineered 25 Academic All-Big Ten selections and 41 OSU Scholar-Athlete honors. Fleck has geared the Buckeyes to one school record and two pool records
About Coach Panzano
Vince Panzano continues his legacy at Ohio State as he enters his 25th year as coach of the Buckeye men’s and women’s divers.
Panzano, who was named the 2002 Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year (the seventh time he has earned the honor) has produced one world champion, one junior world champion, two Olympic medalists, 22 U.S. Diving champions, eight NCAA champions, 14 NCAA runners-up and numerous Big Ten champions and NCAA All-Americans.

The Buckeyes will play host on Nov.15 vs. Utah at 5 p.m. The meet will be held at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center. This meet will be coed. The team will then swim Miami (Ohio) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
