COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team will play host to the Bowling Green State University Falcons on Friday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m. at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center these two teams have not met since 1997. The Buckeyes are off to an impressive 4-1 start with victories against Ohio, West Virginia, Louisville, Utah, and with one lost to Miami (Ohio).
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The Bowling Green Falcons have a 2-4 record this season.The squad is has been led by senior Kelly O’ Hara, senior Jessica Humes and junior Sarah Agnew.
O’Hara has already started to contribute to the Falcons this season. O’Hara lead the Falcons to a season opening victory against Xavier, 117-88. She won the200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:57.20 and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay.
Humes won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:45.68 and was second in the 500-yard freestlye in a time of 5:16.58.
In diving, junior Lindsay Hines placed first in the 1-meter with a score of 178.42. Sophomore Molly O’Donnell placed first inthe 3-meter dive with a score 180.22
FALCON’S LAST MEET
Last week the Falcons faced the University of Buffalo and Ball State in a dual meet. The Falcons lost to Buffalo, 193-107 and to Ball State, 218-82
Freshman Dana Stultz had the only first-place finish of the day in the 100-fly, in 58.89.
Junior Sarah Agnew placed second in the 100-breast in 1:08.04 and the 200-breast in 2:25.40.
THE BUCKEYES DOMINATE AGAINST UTAH, 130-111
Ohio State kicked off the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:55.20 lead by Amanda Treleaven, Stephanie Raezar, Kylie Lancken and Kristinia Lipkis.
Deanna Strunk placed first in two events. She won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.68 and recorded the team’s best time of the season in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:08.38.
Nicole Maglich won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:00.84 the team’s best time of the season. Maglich also came in second in the 200-fly in a time of 2:08.01. Treleaven took first place in the 200-yard backstroke, in a time of 2:03.90, the team’s best time of the season.
Lancken recorded the team’s best time of the season in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.86.
In addition to swimming the second leg of the 400-yard medley relay, Raezar recorded the team’s best time of the season in the 200- IM where she placed second in a time of 2:08.58.
In diving, Natalia Diea won both diving events. She won the 1-meter with a score of 192.60 and she won the 3-meter with a score of 217.15, her best mark this season.
OSU DROPS FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON
The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team lost its first meet of the season to Miami (Ohio) by a score of 172.50-127.50 at the Crown M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio.
Deanna Strunk kicked off the meet by placing first in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.42. She also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a team’s best time of 2:05.97.
Stephanie Raezar placed second in four events. She placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10.21.84 and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.58. In addition, she placed second in the 200-yard breastroke and was a member of the second place 400-yard medley relay, which had a time of 3:56.78.
Kylie Lancken placed first in two events and second in two events. She placed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.13 and participated on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team with a time of 3:38.38. In addition, she placed second in the 100 fly and participated on the 400-yard medley relay team that took second place.
Amanda Treleaven also posted a win for the Buckeyes, taking victory in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 58.20.
In diving, Jillian Cicione placed first in the 1-meter with a score of 236.32 and placed second in the 3-meter dive with a team’s season best of 256.35.
ABOUT COACH FLECK
Coach Jeanne Fleck, enters her fourth season at the helm of the Ohio State women’s swimming program looking for her team to display excellence both in the water and classroom. She has become accustomed to both throughout her coaching career.
The Buckeyes also excelled in the classroom with an overall grade point average of 3.34 last season.
It was no coincidence that seven Buckeyes were named Academic All-Big Ten following the winter quarter and that 16 earned OSU Scholar-Athlete honors. As a unit, the Ohio State women’s swimming program took home team Academic All-America honors awarded by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the 2001-02 season. In three seasons, Fleck has engineered 25 Academic All-Big Ten selections and 41 OSU Scholar-Athlete honors. Fleck has geared the Buckeyes to one school record and two pool records.
