COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s volleyball coach Pete Hanson has announced that Brett Versen of Centerville, Ohio has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Buckeyes in the 2004 season.
The 6-5 outside hitter was a three-year member of the Centerville High School volleyball team that won the 2001 and 2002 Ohio Boys Volleyball State Championships. Versen was an honorable mention all-state selection as a junior. He also competed for the Dayton Jrs. USAV Club and was a USAV All-American in the 17-club division in 2002.
A member of the Centerville High School Honor Society, Versen also played basketball where he was named the outstanding sophomore in 2001 and the most improved player in 2002.
“We believe Brett to be an outstanding athlete who has barely scratched the surface of his volleyball potential, Hanson said. “Brett has devoted a lot of time to his high school basketball career and has been highly successful both as a basketball and volleyball player.
“We feel that as soon as Brett begins to devote his full time and effort to volleyball he will quickly make the types of strides that all great athletes will make.
“We are expecting great things from Brett in the future and believe that he will be a great addition to our program and we are proud of the fact that he is becoming a Buckeye.”
Ohio State finished 19-11 and was ranked 12th in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll last May. The Buckeyes begin the 2003 season at home against Concordia College on Mon., Jan. 13.
