COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State first baseman Nick Swisher (Jr., Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg) has been named a 2002 preseason All-American by Baseball America. Swisher is a second-team selection and the lone Big Ten player to make the squad.
The All-America honor is the second preseason distinction for Swisher. In December, he was named to the second team of Louisville Slugger’s preseason All-America team.
Last year, Swisher helped the Buckeyes to the 2001 Big Ten championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He led the Big Ten with 15 home runs, a .492 on base percentage and 60 walks while carrying a .322 batting average with 56 runs batted in. Swisher was a First Team All-Big Ten selection and a member of the U.S. National Baseball Team over the summer.
