Softball Shuts Out Cleveland State, 4-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

AKRON, Ohio- The Ohio State softball team improved to 3-0 with its third consecutive shutout at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic in Akron, Ohio, a 4-0 win over Cleveland State
Katie Chain (Jr., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) allowed just two hits and struck out seven. Chrissy Fowler (Sr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) collected two hits and two RBI.
OSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Wendy Allen (So., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) drew a walk to open the game. Anna Smith (Sr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) followed with a grounder to shortstop. A fielding error put two runners on with no outs. After two strikouts, Fowler (Sr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) smacked a single to left field to score Allen. Two throwing errors allowed Smith to score from first and give the Buckeyes a 2-0 advantage.
The Buckeyes added a run in the top of the fourth inning. Amy Ellis led off with a single down the right field line. She stole second base and moved to third base on a fielder’s choice. Ellis gave the Buckeyes a 3-0 advantage when she scored on a fielding error by the shortstop.
Fowler brought in the final run of the game with a single in the fifth inning.
