Softball Edges Bowling Green, 3-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

AKRON, Ohio–The Ohio State softball team defeated Bowling Green, 3-1, to advance to the championship game of the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic in Akron, Ohio.
The Buckeyes will meet Kent State, which also finished bracket play undefeated.
Wendy Allen (So., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) picked up her second win of the tournament, striking out eight and allowing six hits. Chrissy Fowler (Sr., Utica, Ohio/Wright State) provided the offense for the Buckeyes, driving in two runs with a pair of sinlgles.
OSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Anna Smith (Sr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) reached on a fielder’s choice. She advanced to second on a past ball and then stole third bbase. A fielding error at second base allowed her to give the Buckeyes an early advantage.
Bowling Green answered in the top of the second inning, scoring the lone run of the tournament against the Buckeyes. A two-out double to right field by second baseman Jessica Jenkins scored third baseman Jenifer Kernahan, who had reached base on a single.
Kristine Himes (Sr., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) doubled to right center field with one out in the fourth inning. The Buckeyes went back on top when Fowler smacked a single to right field to score Himes.
Fowler also had a hand in the Buckeyes’ final run. With another single to right field, she scored Roth to make the final margin of victory 3-1.
