Ohio State Opens Fall with 9-0 Win Over Wright State – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$AKRON, Ohio- Katie Chain (Jr., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) tossed a perfect game to lead the Ohio State softball team to a 9-0 win over Wright State in both teams’ fall debut at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic at Pony Field in Akron, Ohio.%^$
%^$Chain struck out nine in just five inning of work. That was all it took for the Buckeyes to amass nine runs, enacting the eight run mercy rule after five innings.%^$
%^$OSU jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on three hits and an error. Rogeanna Hottinger (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Newark) laced a line drive down the third base line to start the rally. Wendy Allen (Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley), Anna Smith (Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) and Kristine Himes (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) each singled in the inning.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes added five runs-all earned-in the top of the fifth to give them an 8-0 advantage.%^$Sarah West (Sr.,Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) hit a double down to left center field, Allen hit a triple down the left field line and Stacy Roth (Sr., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) smacked a double off the wall in left field to supply the offensive firepower. The Buckeyes added a run in the top of the fifth inning.%^$
%^$The field of play at Firestone Stadium was not yet suitable for play at 6 p.m., delaying the Ohio State softball team’s first appearance-and win-of the fall season. Pony Field, the other venue for the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic was suitable for play, and the Buckeyes opened up the 2001 season at 8 p.m. in what was supposed to be their second game of the season.%^$
%^$The Ohio State – Akron game, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.
