COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The 15th-ranked Ohio State (12-0 overall, 4-0 Big Ten) women’s volleyball squad defeated Purdue (1-8, 1-2) 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-21) Friday night in St. John Arena in front of 1,191 fans. The sixty-seven minute victory kept the Buckeyes perfect on the season. OSU’s Stacey Gordon (Fr., Oshawa, Ontario) had a match-high 19 kills in the match with Anne Botica (Sr., Windsor, Ontario) adding 16 and Suzie Stiling (Jr., Glenview, Ill.) 12. Shelly Draeger (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) equaled her career-high of seven ace serves and tied the Ohio State match record for the second time this season. Leah Wischmeier (Fr., Brownstown, Ind.) had a team-high six kills for Purdue with Lyndsey Phillips (Fr., Orem, Utah) adding five.%^$
%^$Game one started close with Ohio State holding an 11-8 lead. The Buckeyes put together a six point run to open a 17-8 margin. The run had two kills from Gordon, two ace serves from Botica and two Purdue errors. A Gordon ace ended the game at 30-18. Ohio State hit .548 for the game to .250 for Purdue. Gordon collected seven kill in the game with Stiling adding five.%^$
%^$Ohio State held a two-point lead (10-8) in game two before a four-point run opened the lead to 14-8 off kills by Stiling and Gordon, a Botica ace and a Boilermaker error. At 15-9, OSU ran off six straight points with two Gordon kills, a kill by Draeger, a block by Erin Baker (Sr., Elmhurst, Ill) and Draeger and two Purdue errors to open a 21-10 margin. At 24-13, the Buckeyes closed out the game with another six-point run with two Stiling kills and four Draeger ace serves, including the final three points of the game to win 30-13. The Buckeyes hit .478 for the game to .000 for Purdue. OSU’s Gordon and Stiling contributed five kills each in the game with Draeger adding her four ace serves.%^$
%^$Purdue opened game three with a 1-0 lead off a Phillips kill. After three ties, Ohio State regained the lead, at 4-3, with a Gordon kill. At 8-5, OSU, a Maegan Petersen (So., Waupun, Wis.) kill cut the lead to 8-6. A Baker kill, an ace serve from Nikki Cisco (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) and a Purdue error opened an 11-6 Buckeye lead. Purdue cut the margin to 18-16 off an OSU error. Botica and Phillips exchanged kills to make it 19-17. The Buckeyes had a six-point run to push the lead to 25-17 off kills by Stiling, Botica (twice), Katie Virtue (Jr., St. Charles, Ill.), a block by Stiling and Virtue and Draeger’s seventh aces of the match. Gordon’s kill ended the game at 30-21. Ohio State hit .417 for the game to .192 for Purdue. Botica had a game-high eight kills for Ohio State with Gordon adding seven.%^$
%^$For the match, Ohio State hit .478 to Purdue’s .154. OSU had a 56-21 advantage in kills and a 25-15 margin in digs. The Buckeyes outserved Purdue, 16 to one with Draeger having seven aces and Botica five. OSU had 17 service errors to five for Purdue. The Boilermakers had a five to three margin in blocks with Tiffany Yoskey (Jr., Canal Fulton, Ohio) collecting a match-high four blocks.%^$
%^$Ohio State will play road matches next week at Northwestern (Friday, Oct. 5) and No. 7 Wisconsin (Saturday, Oct. 6).
