%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio- Behind a record-tying performance by Katie Chain in the pitching circle, the Ohio State softball team (43-16 overall, 12-6 in the Big Ten) swept a doubleheader from Wright State with a 3-0 win in game-two of a doubleheader at Buckeye Field.%^$
%^$Chain allowed just two hits and struck out nine to claim her tenth shutout of the season, tying her with Genice Turley (1994) for the most shutouts thrown in a season.%^$
%^$”Katie is running on all cylinders right now,” Linda Kalafatis, OSU head coach, said. “She gave us another strong outing today. When she is on, she doesn’t allow much offensively.”%^$
%^$OSU managed four hits off Kristin Bulitinck, but translated the hits into runs. Bulitinck falls to 7-6 this season.%^$
%^$With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Stacy Roth (So., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) drew a walk. She advanced to second on a single to center field by Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and then scored on a single to center field by Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Wright State).%^$
%^$In the third inning Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) smacked a home run that hit the right field foul pole.%^$
%^$Unaware that the ball had hit the pole and not the fence, Allen was trying to leg out a triple before Kalafatis informed Allen she had hit a home run.%^$
%^$”I was getting ready to slide into third when I saw coach (Kalafatis) laughing and waving me home,” Allen said. “She told me I had hit my first home run.”%^$
%^$Jenn Link (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora) scored Holly English (Sr., Akron, Ohio/Springfield from second base with a single to center field in the fourth inning. English had reached base on a fielder’s choice.%^$
%^$Chain never let up and the three-run cushion was more than enough.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes travel to Akron, Ohio, tomorrow to face the Akron Zips at 7 p.m. in Firestone Stadium.
