Softball Falls to Illinois, 4-3, in Game Two of Doubleheader – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio–Through 12 innings of a doubleheader with the Ohio State softball team (29-12 overall, 3-3 Big Ten), Illinois managed just four hits. Down 3-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Illini scored four runs on three hits to win game two and gain a split of the first ever two meetings between the schools.%^$
%^$After the Illini had put one run on the board, second baseman Katie O’Connell hit a three-run home run to put Illinois in the lead. With the win, the Illini improve to 33-15.%^$
%^$Kristi DeVries took the loss for the Buckeyes. In 5.1 innings of work she allowed five hits, four earned runs and struck out five. Kathryn Nevard improved to 17-7 with the win for the Illini.%^$
%^$OSU took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) singled to left field to open the inning. DeVries then singled with a shot back to the pitcher. A double down the left field line by Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) scored Allen. Jenn Elwell (Jr., Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child), pinch running for DeVries, scored when Amy Ellis (So., Erie, Pa./Ball State) singled to right field. Himes scored from third when Ellis was caught stealing at second base.%^$
%^$Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) went 2-for-3 with a double off the wall in the seventh inning. The double did not spark an OSU rally, however.%^$
%^$OSU returns to action when it travels to Dayton, Ohio, to face Dayton in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Monday, April 10.
