DeVries Tosses No-hitter to Lead OSU to 8-0 Win Over Eastern Michigan – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – After hitting Eastern Michigan shortstop Randi Wolfe with her first pitch of the afternoon, Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) struck out the next seven batters she faced. The sixth strikeout was her 126th of the season, setting an OSU freshman record for most strikeouts in a season. The old record was set last season by Katie Chain (So., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), who tossed a perfect game in a 8-0 win at Miami (Ohio) yesterday.%^$
%^$While DeVries was not perfect, she was close, tossing a no-hitter, DeVries finished with ten strikeouts and allowed a walk to go along with the batter she hit. With the win, DeVries improves to 11-4 for the season.%^$
%^$Just as it was the second straight game where the opposition failed to tally a hit, it was also the second game where OSU earned the win without going a full seven innings due to the eight run mercy rule.%^$
%^$OSU scored eight hits on eight runs. The Buckeyes went up 4-0 in the third inning. The Buckeyes added one run in the fifth and three in he sixth to end the game.%^$
%^$Annie Dedic (So., Yorba Linda, Calif./Fullerton J.C.) led off the third inning with a single to left field. Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) followed with a bunt single. Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) then reached on an error by second baseman Deanna Wisniewski. Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) scored Dedic and Fowler with a single to left center. Allen reached second on the throw home. Stacy Roth (Jr., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) to brought Smith home and moved Allen to third with a sacrifice bunt. Allen scored on the play on a throwing error by Wisniewski.%^$
%^$With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Smith singled to center field and then stole second base. Smith moved to third on a ground out to second base by Allen. Roth singled to left field to score Smith.%^$
%^$Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarwas Valley), and Amy Ellis (So., Erie, Pa./Ball State) singled in the sixth. Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) reached on a fielders choice an no outs were made on the play. With the bases loaded, Dedic coaxed a walk to bring in Jenn Elwell (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hillard Davidson), who pinch ran for Himes. Ellis scored from third on a passed ball to put OSU up 7-0. Beth McAbier (Fr., Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) grounded out to shortstop to score West and end the game.
