Softball Falls to Minnesota, 3-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State softball team (41-16 overall, 12-6 in the Big Ten) fell to Minnesota, 3-1, at Sage Cowles Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The Buckeyes split Big Ten series with Wisconsin and the Golden Gophers to remain in third place in the Big Ten heading into the final week of conference play.%^$
%^$Piper Martin, who went the distance to improve to 21-11 on the season, held OSU to two hits. Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) pitched five innings for the Buckeyes, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out three. Her record is now 14-7.%^$
%^$OSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on what would end up being there only two hits of the afternoon. Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) singled to left field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Two batters later, DeVries singled to center field to score Allen.%^$
%^$The Golden Gophers – aided by a couple of OSU miscues tied the score in the top of the third inning. Minnesota Third baseman Allie Fisk reached first when first baseman Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) dropped a throw to first from DeVries. Fisk moved to third on a single by leftfielder Veronica Roberts and then scored on a wild pitch.%^$
%^$Minnesota scored twice in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. After Tammi Hayes singled to open the inning, Roberts tripled down the left field line to score Hayes. Roberts scored when West threw the ball away.%^$
%^$OSU will play host to Wright State in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
