Softball Drops Bowling Green, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Kristi DeVries (Fr., Corona, Calif./Corona) picked up her 14th win of the season to lead the Ohio State softball team (39-13 overall, 10-4 in the Big Ten) to a 5-2 win over Bowling Green in game one of a doubleheader with the Falcons at Buckeye Field.
With the win, DeVries tied the OSU record for wins by a freshman in a season. Jodi Dolan had 14 wins in 1995. DeVries struck out seven and allowed five hits and one earned run in the complete-game effort.
The Buckeyes fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second but came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning.
Shortstop Libby Voshell singled to left field in the top of the second inning to score rightfielder Renee Rosemeier from third base. Rosemeier had led off the inning with a single to left field.
OSU knocked BGSU starter Jessie Milosek out with four hits and three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after not being able tally a single hit in the first three innings.
Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) singled to left field to open the inning. Stacy Roth (Jr., Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) followed with a single up the middle. After Fowler was caught trying to steal third and Roth advanced to second and then stole third. Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) drew a walk and then stole second. Kristine Himes (So., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) singled to center field to score Roth. A deep fly ball by DeVries was misplayed by centerfielder Jen Domschot, allowing West and Himes to score.
In the fifth, OSU converted two hits off of relief pitcher Mckenna Houle into two runs. Fowler singled to left center field with one out and Roth followed with a single up the middle. A fielding error by leftfielder Jennifer Kernahan allowed Fowler to score from first and Roth to move to second. Wendy Allen (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno) Valley scored Roth from third with a ground ball to second base when Roth beat the throw home.
Bowling Green narrowed the OSU lead to 5-2 in the top of the sixth inning, but DeVries retired the Falcons in the top of the seventh to end the game.
