Donica Merriman Named Big Ten Women’s Track And Field Athlete Of The Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Donica Meriman (Sr., Trotwood, Ohio) has been named the Big Ten Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office. She is the first member of the track and field team to receive the award in the 2001 outdoor season.
Merriman wins the award after an outstanding performance in the Sea Ray Relays this weekend. In her first outdoor appearance, Merriman placed first in the 100-meter hurdles after running a sizzling 12.95. Merriman’s time is an NCAA automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and is the fastest collegiate time in the nation this season. In addition, she notched a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.62.
Merriman was a member of the first-place shuttle hurdle and fifth-place 4×100 relay teams. She also anchored the second-place 4×200 relay team, which broke an 18-year-old school record with a time of 1:36.16.
The Buckeyes will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana Saturday, April 21 to compete in the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
