Women’s Tennis Defeated by Indiana, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s tennis team suffered its first Big Ten loss of the season Friday afternoon, falling 5-2, to Indiana at the Stickney Tennis Center. The match lasted nearly four and half hours and featured four matches that went three sets. The defeat was OSU’s first regular-season Big Ten loss since Iowa dropped the Buckeyes last year in Iowa City. With the loss OSU falls to 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the Big Ten. The victory lifts the Hoosiers to 14-7 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten.%^$
The match started with IU claiming the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Buckeyes’ lone win was at No. 1 where Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) and Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) came back from an early deficit to post an 8-6 victory over Kelly Blanch and J.J. Lavin. At No. 2 Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J.) and Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) played an epic match against Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran. The Hoosiers prevailed as they won 9-8 (9-7).%^$
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets. Pervez and Lindsay Williams (Fr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) recorded OSU’s two singles wins. Pervez bested Tran 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 3 and Williams picked up her 13th win of the year as she defeated Martina Grimm 5-7, 6-0, 5-2 (Default). At No. 1 Dascoli lost the first set, rallied to win the second, but fell to Blanch 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 at No. 1.%^$
OSU will look to rebound Sunday when it plays host to Purdue at 10 a.m. The match will be contested at the Stickney Tennis Center, weather permitting.%^$
