Softball Drops Indiana, 2-0, in Game One of Twin Bill – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The hits were hard to come by for both teams, but the Ohio State softball team (30-12 overall, 4-3 Big Ten) came up with two of its five hits in the top of the seventh to score two runs and defeat the Indiana Hoosiers (12-26 overall, 2-7 Big Ten) at IU Softball Field in game one of a doubleheader in Bloomington, Ind.
Katie Chain (So., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) allowed just three hits and struck out four in the complete game effort. With the win, Chain improves to 14-5 for the season. Allison Cook was almost impressive in the pitching circle for the Hoosiers. She allowed just five hits in seven innings of work. She falls to 9-16 with the loss.
“I knew (Cooke) was hard to hit today,” Chain said. “I just tried to keep us in the game and give us a chance to win.”
OSU had managed just three hits heading into the seventh inning. Sarah West (Jr., Galloway, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) drew a walk to open the inning A sacrifice bunt by Liz Kacsanek (So,. Uniontown, Ohio/Green) moved West to second. Chrissy Fowler (Jr., Utica, Ohio/Utica) drove a triple down the right field line that reached the wall, allowing West to score. Anna Smith (Jr., Walnut, Calif./Diamond Bar) dropped a bunt, allowing Fowler to score from second.
The Hoosiers could not answer in the bottom of he seventh inning.
