Women’s Tennis Whips Iowa, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s tennis team is now 3-0 in the Big Ten after they crushed the Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. The No. 40 Buckeyes are 11-5 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten after upsetting No. 36 Iowa. The Hawkeyes fall to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Buckeyes dominated the singles matches winning five of six. At No. 1 Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Toni Neykova 6-4, 6-3. Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) won her ninth consecutive match with a sound 6-1, 6-4 win over Deni Alexandrova. At No. 3 Sadhaf Pervez (So., Warren, N.J.) dropped Pascale Veraverbeke 6-4, 7-6 (5).
OSU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to win the doubles point. Dascoli and Rincon continued to gel as of late and beat Neykova and Alexandrova 8-2. The tandem of Pervez and Laura Maloney (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) bested Kearney and Scheldt, 8-2, at the number two spot.
The women’s tennis team plays its fourth Big Ten match of the year April 1 at Penn State. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
